Recently, theMinistry of Education (MOE) sent an official letter to Shandong ProvincialGovernment, stating that MOE leading party group approved Weifang Medical Universityto be renamed Shandong Second Medical University.

The history of the school can be traced back to Le Dao School of Nursing in Weixian County in thelate 19th and early 20th centuries. 1951 witnessed the foundation ofShandong Changwei Medical Assistant’s School. It started an undergraduate educationin 1958. The school was established as one of the universities to confer master’sdegree in 1986. It was renamed Weifang Medical University (WFMU) in 1987 and approvedto confer doctor’s degree to serve special needs of the country in 2012. In2019 the School of Public Health was qualified to enroll postdoctoralresearchers for the program “Major Health Risk Prediction and ManagementStrategy in the context of ‘Health China’”. WFMU is developing rapidly underthe support of the Shandong Education Department, Provincial Health Commission,and the Weifang Municipal Government.

The letter said thatShandong Second Medical University is a general public undergraduate highereducation institution, mainly focusing on undergraduate programs, while also undertakingpostgraduate training tasks. The provisional enrollment scale of the school’s full-timestudents is set at 22000, and the adjustment and addition of training programswill be carried out in accordance with MOE relevant regulations.

According torequirements of MOE, the school should effectively strengthen Party development,fully implement the Party’s educational policy, adhere to the socialist orientationof school management and implement the fundamental task of cultivating studentswith virtue through education to train socialist contributors and successorswho are well-rounded in morality, intelligence, public service and soundness inbody and mind.
