From December 11th to 15th, VicePresidentLiang Shujuan of the university led a delegation to engage in anexchange visitto some Russian universities. Officials from the Academic AffairsOffice,International Cooperation and Exchange Office, School of Pharmacy, andSchoolof Rehabilitation Medicine accompanied the visit.

Thedelegation visited the People's Friendship University of Russia and St.Petersburg State University separately, engaging in cooperative discussionswith university representatives and relevant personnel.

At the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, our school's delegation wasreceived by Vice President Natalya V. Syulkova and Yulia Gushchina, Deputy Deanof the Medical School. Both parties reviewed the progress of cooperation since establishing the friendly ties between the institutions. They discussed recent developments at the respective universities and engaged in in-depth discussions and detailed conversations about collaboration plans in various aspects, including joint undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs in fields likeclinical medicine, credit recognition, student exchanges, overseas internships, faculty and teacher exchanges for academic purposes, joint researchinitiatives, and the establishment of joint teacher training bases.

At St. Petersburg State University, the delegation was received by Valeria A.Malomuzh, Deputy Vice President for International Affairs. Discussions centeredaround educational philosophies, talent development systems, disciplineconstruction, and international cooperation. Both sides delved into specificsabout student exchanges, collaborative educational programs, faculty visits foracademic exchange, international curriculum, joint research initiatives, andsigned a memorandum of friendly cooperation, solidifying inter-universityfriendly relations.

Duringthe visit, the delegation toured the campuses of both universities, gaininginsights into educational philosophies, university management systems,assessment methods, undergraduate and postgraduate education models,disciplinary construction, and international cooperation experiences.

This visit and exchange hold significant importance as they aim to solidify andexpand the partnership between our school and Russian universities. Itinitiates a new phase of high-level external cooperation and exchange,elevating the international standards of talent cultivation and scientificresearch at the university. Ultimately, it greatly contributes to thehigh-quality development of the institution.

University Introductions

Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia isone of the renowned public comprehensive universities in Russia. Established in1960, it is an emerging prestigious institution primarily focused on the studyof international relations and world culture, often referred to as thecradle of world politicians.

Overthe past 60 years since its establishment, Peoples’ Friendship University ofRussia has gained worldwide recognition and earned high prestige. As a renownedinternational education and scientific center, it ranks third in thecomprehensive list of Russian Federation Ministry of Science and Higher Education universities and second in faculty expertise. In the latest QS World University Rankings of 2023, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia is placedat the 295th position.

St.Petersburg State University, founded in 1724 by the decree of Peter the Great,along with the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, is Russia's firstuniversity. It is the first university in the Russian-speaking world and aglobally renowned public research university. It stands alongside Moscow State University as one of Russia's top educational institutions and is a member ofthe Coimbra Group, the European University Foundation, and the European University Association. From 1821 to 1914, it was known as the ImperialUniversity of St. Petersburg, and from 1924 to 1991, it was calledLeningrad University.

St.Petersburg State University is an important scientific and educational centerin Russia, having produced 9 Nobel Prize laureates and 3 Fields Medalists, aswell as over 600 members of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, the formerSoviet Academy of Sciences, and various specialized scientific academies.Eminent figures such as Euler, Lomonosov, Mendeleev, Pavlov, Chebyshev,Buniakovski, Landau, Gogol, and Perelman have taught there, while individualslike Lermontov, Lenin, Karamzin, Turgenev, Markov, Lyapunov, Popov, Landau,Putin, and Medvedev have studied at the university.

On June 6, 2019, the President of St. Petersburg State University announced thedecision to confer an honorary doctoral degree upon President Xi Jinping.
